A repository lookup can return a command that appears verbatim upstream and still omit the context needed to use it. This walkthrough follows one such correction in dotrepo's public index.
Start with the answer and its evidence
The earlier uv profile selected cargo build --target x86_64-unknown-linux-musl --profile profiling as its build command, with a high-confidence extraction assessment. Open uv's current profile to inspect the available answers and gaps.
Read the source at the recorded revision
At the profile's pinned contribution-guide revision, that command belongs to a Docker workflow for uv-dev, alongside container setup and execution. The exact text is supported; selecting it as a general build answer is not.
Withhold the default and preserve the history
The corrected record withholds that scalar build answer. It also withholds the test default previously created by deleting a selector from a nextest example. It does not guess replacements. The record's age and unrelated field assessments remain unchanged, and its record-wide verification label is downgraded after this partial inspection.
The evidence history preserves the earlier extraction and the correction. A newer field inspection does not imply that every repository fact was refreshed.
Make the failure reproducible
The importer now screens specialized environment and diagnostic sections and refuses to turn filtered test examples into unfiltered defaults. The source-pinned regression is exercised through the actual importer:
cargo test -p dotrepo-core --test import_quality_gate
The frozen source and dated correction receipt make the decision inspectable. This is static source inspection and regression evidence; no upstream build or test was executed.
Use fallback as part of the workflow
Look up the repository, check the requested field and its scope, read its pinned evidence, and consult upstream instructions when the answer is missing or insufficient. Freshness and confidence cannot replace this check.
For a separate worked evaluation, see the frozen own-project operator study, which retains direct answers and source fallbacks. Maintainer-operated tasks do not establish independent adoption or population accuracy.
